Maritime Mass Rescue Conference and Subject-Matter Expert Course – Early Bird Offer!

The IMRF is running another in its acclaimed series of maritime mass rescue conferences on 11-13 June 2017, hosted once again by our good friends at the Swedish Sea Rescue Society in Gothenburg. And on 14-16 June we have something new: our first mass rescue operations (MRO) subject-matter expert course, also to be held in the Swedish port city. You are invited to join us at one or both of these important events.

Planning for both is advancing: watch for more news in LIFE LINE and on the IMRF websites. But you can book your place at the conference NOW – and if you take advantage of our very special ‘early bird’ early registration rate you will save hundreds of Euros!

International Maritime Mass Rescue Conference 11-13 June 2017 – ‘G4’

The standard conference registration fee for IMRF members is €500, and for non-members it’s €800. But IMRF members who register and pay by 6 January 2017 can save a full 40%, paying only €300. And non-members can save 25%, paying €600. The fees include transport between the conference hotels and the venue, refreshments, lunches and an evening barbecue. The only additional costs will be your travel and accommodation – and we are negotiating some very special conference hotel rates too!

But hurry! To qualify for the ‘early bird’ discount you must reserve AND pay for your place at the conference by 6 January. And there are only 140 places available. Click here to register.

This time the conference is entitled ‘Learning from Experience’. It will be based on detailed discussion of MRO case studies. As usual, the IMRF will ensure that you are fully involved, able to discuss the issues with some of the world’s leading experts on MROs, who have faced the problems MROs present and dealt with them for real. And, as usual, there will be a live element to the conference, on the late Sunday afternoon, 11 June, which you will not want to miss!

Maritime MRO Subject-Matter Expert Course 14-16 June 2017

The IMRF’s first MRO subject-matter expert course, immediately following the conference, will be run in association with Chalmers University in Gothenburg. The course is being designed by leading experts to enable experienced SAR personnel to consider in depth the serious challenges presented by mass rescue operations, and ways of dealing with those challenges. It will be of interest to anyone involved in maritime SAR at managerial level, but will be particularly useful to those tasked with planning and training for such events.

Mass rescue operations are defined by the IMO and ICAO as “search and rescue services characterised by the need for immediate response to large numbers of persons in distress such that the capabilities normally available to the SAR authorities are inadequate”. These are extraordinary incidents, for which, nevertheless, we should be prepared.

This IMRF course will cover a full range of MRO subjects, including

planning
retrieval of people in distress, accounting for them, and supporting them during their rescue
‘places of safety’ – the end of the rescue process
filling the ‘capability gap’
the role of the rescue coordination centre
on scene coordination
multiple aircraft coordination
maritime / shoreside response coordination
communications – priorities, systems, and structures – and public relations
MRO training and exercising, and learning from MRO experience.

The course fee for IMRF members will be €500 and for non-members €800. There is a €200 reduction in the fee if you attend both the conference and the course.

So, an IMRF member who books and pays for a place at the conference before 6 January, and who also attends the course – separate booking will be open shortly – will pay a total of only €600, compared to the full non-member rate of €1400 for both events. That’s an €800 saving...

And to register for the conference click here. Do so before 6 January 2017 and save €200 a place.

We hope to see you in Gothenburg!
