IMRF Launches Its 2017 Activity Report

Posted in News

The IMRF launched its 2017 Activity Report at a supporter event on the 19th March 2019 in London, hosted by the IMRF Board of Trustees.

This was an opportunity for us to personally thank our supporters, who have made it possible for us to continue our vital work of preventing loss of life in the world’s waters.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 372,000 people drown every year. That means that, on average, one person drowns every 85 seconds, and more than 40 people around the world drown every hour. Many of these deaths could be prevented by improved maritime SAR services.

Our Activity Report highlights the work we have done in such areas as supporting and facilitating global SAR development around the world, where in Africa alone we delivered 12 regional SAR training courses in 2017, with 123 participants taking part from 25 countries.

The report also discusses the significant role the IMRF plays in the development of international maritime SAR regulation and policy, including at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and at the International Civil Aviation Organization/IMO Joint Working Group on SAR.

The report also includes a section on the work we have planned in 2018, through which the IMRF will continue to lead and support SAR development around the world.
