London, Monday, 10 October 2016. The International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) today reveals the long list of entries for its H.E.R.O. awards – launched in April this year.
The 30 finalists range from companies, maritime search and rescue organisations and individuals involved in technological developments to those involved with design and innovation, services and training, as well as those actively engaged in saving lives in the world’s waters.
In a festive event which was held on Monday, October 3th in Batiment des Forces Motrices in Geneva, Hellenic Rescue Team received the Nansen prize for refugees for the efforts of its volunteers during the refugee crisis.
The award, which is the highest distinction from the UNHCR, was received by HRT’s Secretary General, Konstantinos Mitragas and HRT was also represented by its Vice President, Nikos Priporas. Efi Latsoudi, from PIKPA village on Lesvos was awarded, too, with the Nansen refugee prize for her work in supporting over 30.000 refugees.
