Dacon, the company that supplies products for rescue from the water, has donated equipment via the IMRF’s Members Assisting Members forum to help search & rescue operations in the Mediterranean.
The organisation held internal discussions about what they could do after reading about the heroism of the local rescue organisations and the Hellenic Rescue Team immediately responded.
Dacon took an inventory of used demo-equipment, that they have for trade shows, customer demonstrations and special projects, to see if they could make a donation.
Once they had a list of equipment, they uploaded it to the forum to find a matching receiving organisation. They were contacted by the Hellenic Rescue Team, who had a need for outfitting their Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIB’s) for more efficient man overboard rescue. Dacon sent down five of the units, which have been put to good use.
“We still have some equipment left to donate, so if any other organisation in the area has a need, please contact us and we will check if what we have in stock, will fit your boats. Otherwise we will offer some new equipment with a very high discount,” said Daniel Olsson, Dacon’s Division Manager, Maritime Rescue Equipment.
“The donations made by Dacon will save lives in the testing waters of the Aegean Sea”, says IMRF CEO Bruce Reid. ”When we launched the Members Assisting Members website, Daniel was one of the first to respond and also deliver help to fellow members the Hellenic Rescue Team. The IMRF exists to help prevent loss of life in the world's waters. When we see tragic stories of the lives lost in the waters of Greece, we always ask: can we do more? The equipment provided to the Hellenic Rescue Team from Dacon will allow the HRT to do more and we thank Daniel and his team for their support.”
